Our Families
A Family Legacy of Care: Get to Know the Rolands' Team
Warren B. Roland, son of the funeral home's founder, Burdette L. Roland, graduated with an associate degree in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota in 1966. He began to acquire a share of the business in the late 1960s. In 1971, Warren married hometown beautician Amy Jo Paul at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Warren and Amy were blessed with six children. As advocates, the Roland family actively
pioneered the revival of home education in Iowa in the 1980's. Working in cooperation with Iowa law and the Atlantic Community
School District, they homeschooled their children from the time the eldest was eleven. They cherished the ability to educate their
children according to their individual interests while also taking part in public school activities. With what they considered "the best of both worlds," the Rolands consistently maintained a strong friendship with and support for the Atlantic Public Schools.
Their children have pursued various degrees and careers - at one point living
on four different continents simultaneously. Today, they are all enjoying growing families of their own.

After raising and homeschooling six kids, it is no big deal to race after her pup, Natalie, daily visit many friends and neighbors, actively participate in many GracePoint church activities including providing weekly snacks for the entire children's church program, help to facilitate GriefShare, run the Heavenly Hugs program that refurbishes hundreds of gently used stuffies for children to receive in challenging life situations and as a treat at the Annual Festival of Trees and work with Kiwanis. Other than that, she enjoys being home reading and catching up with friends on social media.

Coming alongside people in their grief is a true privilege and I am humbled to be able to serve and support many facets of Rolands' funeral care and business; it has turned out to be the dream job I had never thought I wanted!
It has been miraculous to have my husband join us at Rolands', getting to work full-time with Larry, Sara and Ian as well as our entire staff is one of my greatest blessings.
Home is where we retreat to soak in refreshing time with our ever-growing family! I love seeing how each one of them is growing and changing in their lives. We still have three teens at home so their activities keep us hopping! And the minute we get a chance, we check in on our older kids and our grandson!!!
I love to play the piano, sew and cook as I listen to audiobooks at home.

I love working with such compassionate and caring people. My goal is to make a difficult time as easy as possible under hard circumstances.
I also work at the Nishna Valley YMCA as maintenance and in the 3-year-old room as a teachers' assistant.
I have four adult children and am enjoying our grandchildren and watching my family grow. I have a fondness for all animals and my hobbies are gardening and quilting.

Roland is a student first but ready and willing to jump on a mower or put on a suit as the situation presents itself. He loves people and has a heart for encouraging others. He is the son of Larry and Heidi Hinman.
